With horizontal Autoscale, the number of servers increases automatically during demand spikes to maintain performance, and decreases automatically during lulls to minimize costs. This is often the best choice when workloads are expected to experience significant spikes that require bigger bursts than vertical Autoscale would be able to handle.
You have the ability to determine the minimum number of servers to remain on at all times, and the metrics (CPU and/or memory) and thresholds to determine when to scale out and scale in. You can also set threshold and cool down periods, to help prevent “rapid-fire” Autoscale events before the server has the chance to recognize the positive effects of an initial scale event.
Vertical Autoscale automatically right-sizes the compute capacity of your servers in response to demand volatility. Improved performance for many workloads may be achieved simply by adding resources to existing servers without the need for deployment of additional servers. 在工作负荷单纯受CPU限制而不受I/O限制时通常可以采用这种方法。
With vertical Autoscale, you can determine the minimum and maximum number of CPUs for the server, as well as the policies for thresholds and increments, which determines how many CPUs to add (1, 2, 4) during a scaling event.
